Project Overview
FedExperts Organization operated as a news and article-style website and blog focused on highlighting issues within the justice system. Founded by JD MacBean, who spent over 13 years researching and supporting incarcerated individuals and their families, the platform provided insightful content designed to educate and empower readers.
The project involved designing several book covers and developing, designing, and managing the website. A significant aspect was showcasing and promoting JD’s books—highlighting key titles and facilitating their sales directly through the site. Another core challenge was integrating diverse content types such as articles, podcasts, and interviews into a cohesive, user-friendly platform. The completed website offered a streamlined, accessible resource that effectively amplified JD’s work, boosted book visibility, and engaged a wide audience.

Print & Digital Book Covers
JD MacBean brought a deep personal connection and profound understanding of the unique challenges faced by prisoners and their families. His extensive experience fueled his passion and commitment to providing guidance, support, and hope to those navigating the complexities of incarceration. Recognizing the vital role that design plays in connecting with and engaging this specific audience, the book covers were carefully crafted using photos provided by JD to ensure authenticity and emotional resonance.
The design process strictly followed all technical requirements, including precise sizing specifications for both digital and print formats. Additionally, careful attention was given to image copyright and usage rights to ensure full compliance and proper attribution. The final covers balanced empathy with professionalism, combining impactful visuals and clear, approachable typography to create covers that not only attract attention but also convey trust and authority.
Website Design & Development
The FedExperts website was designed and developed as a dynamic news and blog platform, presenting a wide range of content related to the justice system. Featuring a news-inspired design, the site emphasized clarity, accessibility, and easy navigation across numerous topics. Given the volume and diversity of content—including articles, opinion pieces, podcasts, and interviews—it was essential to create an intuitive structure that allowed visitors to quickly find and engage with material relevant to their interests.
A key consideration was that most users accessed the site via mobile devices. As a result, the design prioritized a fully responsive, mobile-first approach to ensure an optimal browsing experience on smartphones and tablets without sacrificing functionality or readability.
A standout feature was the integration of voices from current inmates, who contributed blogs and opinion pieces, providing firsthand perspectives rarely heard elsewhere. The site also hosted a podcast series, further enriching the platform’s content diversity. Managing this continuously evolving content required robust backend development and ongoing site management to keep the site current, reliable, and user-friendly.
The design balanced professionalism with approachability, making it a trusted resource for prisoners, their families, advocates, and the general public alike. The result was a cohesive, user-friendly platform that amplified JD MacBean’s mission and fostered meaningful dialogue around incarceration.

Final Results
Helping people, help people
The final result broke the chains of traditional justice system storytelling by providing a platform for voices once locked away to express, connect, and rise above. The design ensured seamless access across devices, while the content overcame barriers to become a beacon of hope and empowerment. It became a space where stories came alive, conversations flourished, and families affected by incarceration found vital information and support to empower themselves. Beyond the website, the project showcased JD MacBean’s books, expertise, and deeply personal experience, amplifying his mission to educate and guide those impacted by the justice system. In short, this effort did more than build a digital platform; it set ideas and voices free.
